The History Behind the Science

Founding Story

  

As Dr. Matt Rhea began graduate school, he found that he was passionate about designing advanced training programs. However, he also quickly noticed the drastic differences between a successful program and an ineffective one. He was determined to find out the characteristics of each side. 

 
 

One of the biggest challenges that he found in designed cardiovascular programs, was the outdated and inaccurate methods of determining heart rate zones for individuals. What followed was over ten years of tests and research on cardiovascular exercise physiology, individual response to exercise, and optimal training prescription. Dr. Rhea eventually developed cardio programs that captured the exercise science principles of progression, overload, and periodization then altered them using a sub-maximal test that identified fitness benchmarks. 

 
 

These programs were then tested on a variety of populations and athletes. They have since been refined to become the most effective system for cardiovascular exercise and has been used by Dr. Rhea to create effective training systems for the world's most elite athletes. The athletes that have used these programs have found that they lead to more effective training zones, more appropriate exercise stress, and even greater fitness adaptations.

How do these Cardio Programs work?

To Get Started

Instead of finding your heart rate with the outdated methods, the athlete will start on the programs' test sheet. This test sheet takes the athletes through steps to find their heartbeat threshold that are then put into our formula to calculate the rest of the program. This means that not only is the program specifically designed for each individual sport, but catered to each individual athletes. 

The Program

The program itself consists of 12 levels with 10 workouts in each level. Each workout and level adjusts to the athletes test sheet, meaning no two programs are the same.
